Privacy policy

The short version: this site collects almost nothing. There's no login, no signup form, and no advertising tracker watching what you read. One small cookie remembers whether to show Canadian or US prices, but only if you use the CA/US switch. Optional tools keep their working data in your browser; the DNS checker and share links are the exceptions, explained below.

What we collect

• A country preference (dss_country). The site shows Canadian prices by default. If you use the CA/US switch in the header, your choice is saved in this browser (a cookie and local storage) so prices show in the right currency next time. It holds no name, no email, no identifying information — just two letters.
• Standard server logs. Like effectively every website, our host (Cloudflare) logs basic technical request data (IP address, browser type, page requested) for security and reliability. We don't access this for tracking individuals.
• Cookieless analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics). So we can tell which guides are actually useful, the site counts page views using Cloudflare Web Analytics. It sets no cookies and stores nothing at all on your device. It does not fingerprint you by IP address, browser, or anything else, and it cannot follow you to other websites. What it records is the page viewed, the site that linked you here (if any), your general country, browser and device type, and how quickly the page loaded — as totals, never tied to a person. There is no profile of you, because there is nothing to build one from.
• Optional tool data. The ownership checklist stores the fields you enter in this browser's local storage so they are still here when you return; we never receive them. The review QR helper works entirely in your browser. The email DNS checker sends the domain you type to a public DNS resolver (Cloudflare's, or Google's as a fallback) to look up its records, and puts the domain in the page address so you can bookmark the result. Share links are different. The calculator's, setup wizard's, and scam checker's share buttons put what you entered (amounts, item names, answers) into the link itself. Anyone you send it to can read it, it stays in browser history, and opening it sends those details to our host as part of the page address, where they can appear in Cloudflare's standard request logs. Keep anything private out of a shared calculation. Do not enter passwords or backup codes in the checklist.

What we don't collect

No accounts, no passwords, no payment details ever touch this site — every purchase happens on the provider's own website (Spaceship, GoDaddy, CanSpace, and so on), under their privacy policy, not ours. We don't run ad networks or advertising pixels, and we deliberately don't use Google Analytics or any other tool that builds a profile of you or follows you between websites. The cookieless counter described above is the only analytics here — chosen specifically so this site never has to throw a cookie consent banner in your way before you can read a guide.

Affiliate links

Links starting with /go/ currently redirect to plain provider URLs and earn no affiliate commission — see the full disclosure for how those work. Once you leave our site through one of those links, the provider's own privacy policy and tracking apply, not ours. We don't see or store anything about what you do on their site.

Cookies, in full

The only cookie this site sets itself is dss_country, described above, kept for one year. It's functional, not for advertising or cross-site tracking, and nothing breaks if you clear it (and its local-storage copy) — it just resets you to the default (Canadian pricing). Our analytics adds no cookies of its own, which is the whole reason it was chosen. That's the complete list — one functional cookie, and that's it.

Your choices

Clear the dss_country cookie and local storage entries any time through your browser's site settings. The ownership-checklist page also has a “Clear this device” button. Those entries stay in your browser, so we have no account or server copy of them to delete. Page addresses you open, including share links, can still appear in our host's standard request logs described above; we don't use those logs to identify anyone.

Changes to this policy

If what this site collects ever changes materially, this page will be updated and the "last updated" date above will move. Given how little the site collects today, we don't expect that to happen often.
